Dear Readers,
how are you this morning? I’ve just come back from my morning walk (I try and walk 30 Minutes in the mornings because A) It’s good for me and B) It’s too difficult for me to enjoy being outside right now because of wasps.)
So this weekend I’ve decided to be a sofa slob and just get through some movies.
I watched the new Jennifer Lawrence film “No Hard Feelings” on Thursday night and I really enjoyed it. Sure it was a bit tropey in parts but the chemistry between Jennifer Lawrence and Andrew Barth Feldman was so good!
Also Andrew Barth Feldman really made me believe that not all Gen Z’ers are annoying. I found him sweet.
Anyway…there is a scene when J-Law’s character is trying to seduce ABF so she says “let’s go skinny dipping”.
Side note…is Skinny Dipping really that sexy? I mean the water is cold and has a lot of slimy or living things that can swim into some undiscovered cracks…
So they’re swimming and *big surprise* some annoying teenagers come and try to steal their clothes.
J-Law then gets out of the water and gives chase. Completely naked. And we see everything. And it is….amazing!
She get’s back into the water and ABF asks “Why did you do that?” and J-Law replies “They were stealing our phones”.
After watching this scene I had to google whether Jennifer Lawrence had used a body double – and the answer was no.
I find this fantastic.
The scene was completely non-sexual. It’s just a woman, devoid of clothing, chasing after some people who had stolen her stuff.
There were no comments about her body , no overt-staring. It was just normal.
And this is how bodies should be looked at. Normal. We all have the same parts (some are differently developed than others), but we shouldn’t just over-sexualise someone’s appearance.
I feel that in doing this scene, J-Law has told us again that she is in control of her body.
In 2014 Jennifer Lawrence (who was about 24) had her naked photos stolen and then published online. Obviously a very traumatic experience for a young woman.
With this scene she’s telling the world…ok – you wanna see my naked body? Let’s do it on my terms.
Thanks for reading,
