The day which changed my path

Dear readers,

Hope you’re doing well! I’m currently coughing up my lungs thanks to a severe case of birch hayfever – but anyway…life must go on right?

Today’s prompt is about the most inspirational teacher I’ve had — and honestly, I didn’t even have to think about it. There’s only one: Mr Lampshire.

There’s a moment that’s completely fixed in my mind.

I was 14 and sitting in German class half asleep.
I’d never really been too fussed about German. I preferred French (a sexier language)
The grammar was too confusing (Der/Die/Das – Dative, Akkusative) and our textbook was based around a boring man named Wolfgang who had no personality and one earring.

  • SIDE NOTE: THE BIGGEST TURN-OFF FOR ME IS SEEING A MAN WEAR ONE EARRING. THIS IS THE ULTIMATE YUCK FOR ME.

However it came my time to read so I did and suddenly the class was really still. I didn’t realise why until someone said “Oh my god – you sound like an axtual German”. Apparently my pronounciation and accent was so on point that even my teacher was awed.

Mr Lampshire took me aside afterwards and said that I had a talent for German and he was really impressed.

It was after that day where I decided to focus more on German than French – which has led to me living in Switzerland and actually working day to day in German.

So – thank you Mr Lampshire for your support and encouragement!

Thanks for reading,
