I would like to say that I’m quite disciplined and that I’m very good at resisting tempting foods and drinks – however there is one food which I can never resist.
Popcorn.
I’m not going to sugar-coat it (mainly because I prefer butter) but I think I have an addiction to popcorn.
The sensation as I bite into a butter-soaked piece of popped corn and feel that salty buttery taste just explode in my mouth. That’s happiness.
I sometimes succumb and buy microwave popcorn – but that’s never as good. So here is my little recipe for the perfect butter popcorn.
Ingredients
- Popcorn kernels – approx 1 cup
- Olive Oil – about 1 Tbsp
- Butter – (I use too much but … 30g)
Method
- Start warming up some olive oil in a pot on the stove. Don’t make it too hot – just above medium.
- Put in two popcorn kernels and put on the lid.
- In the meantime start melting your butter – but don’t let it burn.
- When the two popcorn kernels have popped then quickly take the pot off the heat and turn down the heat a little bit.
- Add the rest of the popcorn kernels and give it all a swirl.
- Put the pot back on the heat and put on the lid.
- Wait 🙂
- When you think all the popcorn kernels have popped then pour them into a bowl.
- Then slowly pour over the melted butter – constantly stirring the popcorn with the knife that you cut the butter with.
- Pour over some salt – give it a shake.
- Enjoy 🙂
In Somalia they add syrup to popcorn, I swear am getting fat out of over-indulgence

We add melted butter to the popcorn, and some salt. It is usually good.
